Terry Fox Run/Walk
Today, the students of Mike Mountain Horse, participated in a Terry Fox Walk. We walked around Nicholas Sheran Lake, where we met up with students from both Nicholas Sheran and Dr Probe. It was a beautiful, crisp fall morning. We also had the opportunity to watch a drumming performance. It was amazing! Check it out below!
What a beautiful view! Gorgeous day for our Terry Fox Walk!

Our Friday Tradition
My favorite activity as a teacher to watch is our Friday Appreciation Circle. Every Friday, students are given a popsicle stick with another student's name on it. They take turns sharing a statement of appreciation to that classmate. Ie. "I appreciate you because..."
We stress in our classroom that everyone has different likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc. The diversity is what makes us so special and unique. We embrace our differences and cherish the fact that we all bring something new and different to our classroom. One of our classroom rules is "Respect". Although we may not all be absolute best friends, we still treat each other with respect. Our appreciation circle is a fantastic way to do that. It takes 15 minutes of our day, but I know I leave our circle with a huge smile on my face, proud of each and every one of my incredible students.

Quiver
We started using a new app today called Quiver. While finding activities to complete during Dot Day, Quiver was a suggested app. Boy was it fun!! Check out the video below:
International Dot Day!!
Today we celebrated International Dot Day, based on the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds.
Our centers included:
- Using the laptops to draw our "Going Places" picture! Students were expected to use paint to draw a location they would love to visit.
- Reading various books by the amazing Peter Reynolds
- Quiver App where students drew pictures then the app would make that dot pop off the page in 3D!
- Twister!
- A math sticker Dot Activity! Students made a picture using dot stickers, then had to estimate to see if they could make a good guess on how many "dots" they used to make their picture.
To end our day today we will be completing our first google hangout with another grade 3 class who was also celebrating dot day. Check out our global connections tab later to find out how our experience went!

Home Reading Challenge
Today we kicked off our Home Reading Challenge of Read Across Canada.
The task:Students are to record how many pages they read each night. They can read anything they wish! A book from our class, a personal book, a magazine, the phone book even! On Monday of each week I will check and tally the amount of pages read.
10 pages = 1 km.
The first week we read 2252 pages which equals 225.2 km!!!
We are starting our travels in St. John's, Newfoundland.
To begin, we watched a video of Terry Fox starting the Marathon of Hope at Cape Spear, Newfoundland. And like Terry, students of 3B started their reading journey by dipping their hands in Atlantic Ocean water.
Let our Reading Journey Begin!!
We are ready to celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday!

Cardboard Box Challenge
The last week of September and first week of October, I'd like to participate in the Cardboard box Challenge from Imagination Foundation.
Imagination Foundation
Caine's Arcade
Please check out the links above. I have asked students to start collecting cardboard and brainstorm ideas for their project.
This project will be completed at school, however if you want your child to work at home as well, that is totally fine by me!

The First Week Back!
Hello Everyone,
We are almost through with our first week back to school. It has been a fantastic week of getting to know one another and jumping in to the grade 3 curriculum.
Some of the activities we completed this week:
Snowball ~ students had a blast throwing paper balls, but I promise there was a method to my madness. Students had a chance to write down what they believe makes an "ideal" classroom. We then shared the ideas with our classmates.
Kidblog ~ we started our basic introductions to Kidblog. Your child has made their own password for their blog. Please feel free to check in on the work they will complete this year.
Google Maps~ next week we will attempt our first mystery hangout. Therefore we first had to explore the limits of Google Maps! Boy was it fun :)

Monday, September 12 ~ Roald Dahl Day! We will be celebrating the birth of Roald Dahl.
Tuesday, September 13 ~ Mrs. Speelman will be in our class as Mrs. Fahey will not be here.
~ Meet the Teacher Night! Bring your own picnic, and come see our classroom!
Wednesday, September 14 ~ First Library class
Thursday, September 15 ~ International Dot Day!! Celebrating Peter Reynolds!
