Digital Citizenship

As you all know, technology, specifically the internet is basically part of everything we do. Students use it for research, to play games, to chat with friends, watch videos and the list continues. The internet is an excellent resource, however like everything, it can have its issues. This past week, I had an opportunity to attend a digital citizenship workshop where other teachers in our district met to discuss protocols and ways to use the internet safely within our classrooms.

Telus has created an excellent program called Telus Wise which is broken down into three categories.
1. Adults
2. Elementary/Jr High school students
3. High School / University students.

Each program comes with videos, resources and contests which allow students to learn how to safely approach and use the internet.

For students ranging in ages from 7 -14, there is a program called "Telus Wise Footprint" which introduces students to the concept of their digital footprint, and ensuring that what we leave on the internet is something we are proud of.
Check it out: Telus WISE Footprint ~ there is an exciting comic strip contest that will be starting in August which gives students an opportunity to earn money for both themselves and their school.
